Welcome, new pals

I’m Emma Henderson, journalist and editor and I’m currrently the IndyBest Editor at The Independent. I’ve been in this role for over four years, where I mostly cover food and drink. I’ve also written for the lifestyle, comment and culture section too.

My previous role was IndyEats editor, which is a digital monthly food and drink magazine I set up with a colleague and edited. It was twice shortlisted for “best magazine” at the Guild of Food Writers awards.

I hope for this bi-weekly newsletter to be an ode to my love – obsession whatever you call it – for food, (obviously, which is where the name came from, but more of that below) drinks and a bit of travel, and to be a more creative space to write.

By reading it, I hope to bring insight into the food industry by championing little know producers, rising stars, waxing lyrical about something I loved eating in the 90s, what I’ve been up to lately in my own little food world, easy recipes I’m enjoying or anything else marginally related that I can shoe-horn in.

And on to the name: it's also about getting a good cream tea right, which of course, is the Cornish way. I won’t hear anything else on the matter.

If you’ve not guessed it after all that, I’m from Cornwall. Although now is a good time to insert my disclaimer on the matter: I am not born and bred (B&B), as there’s a clear distinction on the matter. So please accept me for who I am: an outsider, and Cornish at heart.
